“Music is not necessary in life, because life is music. Many things can be said about music, that it is a cultural element, that it carries the traces of the geography in which it was born, that it expresses the philosophy of the society. Even if the instruments, words, and languages change. It is claimed that “the language of music is universal”. I ask myself: is it?
if I can listen to all kinds of music, I think it is not possible. Some music relaxes me, while others irritate me; if possible, I want to silence the music, if not, I want to gallop away without even looking back. And while there are people running towards the music I avoid. Even though it is said that pleasure and tastes cannot be discussed; we still discuss it. “How can you listen to this noise? How can you tolerate it’s disgusting? I think you should change your understanding of music. I don’t think it suits you at all, why should someone like you listen to such music…” What doesn’t appeal to us shouldn’t appeal to anyone else.
So, how and according to what does our taste in music develop?
Who or what is affected by it?
Is the need to belong to the group a factor in determining musical taste?
Does music preference undergo instantaneous, daily, weekly, or monthly changes depending on the psychological state?
When does musical perception develop?
A healthy baby can distinguish his mother’s voice from foreign sounds when he is only 3 days old. When it is a few weeks old, it becomes stiff in response to sudden and high-pitched sounds. Every healthy baby is sensitive to tones of voice from the moment it is born; In fact, they do not remain indifferent to music in the
first 3 months. This sensitivity to sounds causes them to listen to music carefully between 4-6 months, turn to the direction of the sound, and look with a questioning expression when the music ends. Sometimes they stop their behavior and listen to the music motionlessly until the music ends. They can distinguish male and
female voices at 6-7 months. When they are 5-6 years old, it is a period in which their skills in playing musical instruments develop, they can make proper rhythms and beats, they gain self-confidence in everything they do in the name of music, and they are honored with what they do.
The preschool period includes the critical years when the most rapid changes in life occur and require the most attention. The quality of the education given to the child during this period will affect his entire life. He/she will receive lifelong support from a quality and sensitive education and will bear the scars of faulty practices for life. The 0-6 age period is the period in which 82% of personality traits are established, habits are acquired, learning is most intense, skills develop, and talents are noticed.
It is necessary to make good use of this period. Music education also contributes to the child’s development. Although it is one of the important areas that will provide positive returns, it also has various economic, religious, sociological, etc. For some reasons, not every child can receive this education.
After all, even though the individual who will receive education is a child, a child cannot realize that he needs to receive education on his own. I don’t think there is a preschool child who says, “As you can see, I have a great ear for music. I should find a piano teacher or go looking for a guitar course close to my home…” It is the family, the kindergarten teacher, who will recognize their child’s talent in this regard; the child cannot do this alone.
The child cannot chart the right route for himself, and it is the family and the teacher who will chart it. Not every child may be the Mozart or Grandfather of music; But every child is interested in music and can develop musical perception. The problem is, he can’t do it alone. what to do, how to do it, which
. Unfortunately, in our country, activities for preschool children remain at the level of singing, accompanying music or ronts.so sad. When I informed the families of some children whom I observed to be talented in music, let’s leave aside the families who were not keen on music, there were so many people who had gone through intensive research for their children and were not accepted to music education on the grounds that the child was too young.
This being the case, the biggest responsibility falls on pre-school institutions. They also do not do their part due to various excuses, lack of necessary information, etc. Music corners at school include piano, metallophone, organ, maracas, steel triangle, xylophone, tambourine, cymbal, percussion instruments,
How many people have the knowledge to determine the activities to achieve the goals and target behaviors specified in the annual, monthly, weekly and daily plans, and the understanding to implement them meticulously?
